Pronouns: She | Her | They | Them
I’m Lauren Urban, LCSW, CHT (she/they) – a psychotherapist practicing at the intersection of psychology and ceremony with individuals, couples and groups in person in Ridgewood, Queens or virtually throughout New York State. I describe the work that I do as helping folks become the internal parent to themselves that they’ve always needed. My absolute pleasure as a practitioner is to help the therapy seeker find exploration, self-knowledge, expansion, authenticity, autonomy, spaciousness and ease.
My practice is an mix of insight-oriented talk therapy, mindfulness-based self-compassion, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) combined with esoteric tools for self-reflection and insight, analysis and intuition, warmth and connection, and encouragement of community to facilitate and support the process of making lasting change. I have recently become certified in hypnotherapy, and will be offering that practice alongside of as well as separately from, my psychotherapy offerings.
I work with individual adults experiencing depression, anxiety, ADHD and relationship difficulties. I work with individual adults and couples who experience challenges with emotional regulation, are Highly Sensitive People, are experiencing difficult adjustments to changing life situations and relationship difficulties, are exploring CNM/poly relationships or are exploring their gender or sexual identity. I am a trans, poly, kink, LGBTQIA+ and sexwork-affirming therapist. I’m energized by working with folks who are interested in art, myth, tarot, the occult, music and other creative practices. I love dipping into ceremony, spirituality and metaphysics to help guide folks to insight. I deeply enjoy the opportunity to guide people to feel more in control of their relationship to alcohol and substances and I am honored to support folks who are in the process of dismantling the influence of and healing from religious trauma.
My practice is an anti-oppressive, identity-affirming space. I am aware of the systems we exist within that oppress some and elevate others, and I am aware of my place and my privilege within those systems as a queer white femme. I believe it is incumbent upon me to engage in liberatory practice and strive to be in right relationship with the communities with which I interact on a daily basis. I continue to attend training and seek learning and mentorship in order to dismantle these systems within myself and be an anti-racist, anti-oppressive practitioner. My personal goals for the work that I do are to help therapy seekers increase their overall feelings of agency and competency, to teach to better manage resultant stress and to help my patients to develop or increase effective coping skills to navigate and survive the oppressive systems we live within.
I offer a solidarity fee structure, which includes full-fee options for folks who are able to pay full fee and interested in helping subsidize lower-fee sessions for folks who can’t, as well as lower-fee sessions, which is determined by individual income for solo folks and household income for folks with partners/dependents. Sliding scale spots are based on availability. Feel free to ask about those options.
